Our History
Howard and Carol Flett started Flett Plumbing in 1999. In the beginning it was known as Flett Enterprises, LLC. The couple ran the business out of the house and later garage for the first several years.
At the urging of family and friends, Howard and Carol’s son Scott returned to Rolla to help run the family business in 2002. Howard began teaching Scott everything he knew from the basics of plumbing to bidding on new jobs. Scott started running the daily operations and living by one of the many pieces of advice Howard gave him. He told him to “keep your mouth shut and your eyes and ears open”.
Shortly after Scott’s return, the family hired Andrea Cowan. Andrea was instrumental in helping the family streamline their business operations. She helped implement and teach them to use the different accounting software and did so until her passing in 2020. Her lessons and practices are still in use today.
When they first opened the doors, their primary focus was commercial plumbing. Between 2002 and 2010, they did over a hundred jobs in the Ft Leonard Wood area alone.
On a business trip in 2006, Scott spoke with several others in the industry and Flett Plumbing made the decision to enter the service industry. A service technician was added, and residential service began.
Two years later, in 2008, the family purchased a new location for their shop at 2020 Old St James Road in Rolla. They are still operating out of this location today.
The family changed the name to Flett Plumbing, LLC in 2012. In order to align more with their mission of providing reliable plumbing solutions with a personal touch.
Today, Scott and his wife Melanie continue to run the business while Howard and his dog Shewbacca enjoy retirement.

Howard and Scott are both proud Veterans. Today, Scott and Melanie run the annual Carol Flett for Veterans golf tournament every October. This tournament raises money for Wreaths Across America. The money raised is used to place a wreath on veterans’ graves in St James, Rolla, Salem, and Edgar Springs.
Meet the Team
At Flett Plumbing, we’re more than just a business; we’re a close-knit family. Allow us to introduce you to the key members of our team:
Howard Flett – Owner/ Founder
Before starting Flett Plumbing, Howard had experience in just about everything in the business. After getting out of the Army, he began as an apprentice, moving on to service technician after finishing his apprenticeship. Over the next several years, Howard worked as a plumbing foreman, project manager and estimator. Followed by 15 years a sales rep selling plumbing supplies. He was also involved in two separate partnerships before opening the doors.
- Scott Flett – Owner/Operator
Before joining the family business, Scott served in the US Army for two years as a clerk. After getting out of the service he went into the trucking industry. With ten years of experience, Scott drove everything from terminal, local, and over the road. He spent time on the management side running a freight terminal. When he came back to join his father, he learned the plumbing business and today has over 21 years of experience.
- Dustin Plumb – Lead Plumber/Operator
Twelve years with Flett Plumbing. Dustin grew up around the plumbing trade since his father was a Master Plumber. He attended schools for both welding and heavy equipment earning degrees from both. Before coming to Flett, Dustin worked as a spray tech for a tree farm and plumbed full time for six years.
- Jacob Fisher – Plumber/Operator
Four years with Flett Plumbing. Before joining our team, Jacob earned a Master Welders Degree and was a “jack of all trades” doing everything from driving a truck to fabricating. Jacob grew up around heavy machinery and in the garage. He spent 1.5 to two years running our service truck.
- Barry Armstrong – Service Tech/Plumber
The newest member of the team, Barry started in January of 2022. Barry began his career in retail plumbing sales. Wanting to get more hands on, he entered the plumbing trade, beginning as an apprentice, plumbing the Branson Landing project. Through the years he has worked in new construction along with running service. He currently runs our service truck. Barry thrives on problem solving and is rewarded when he can solve the problems that our customers experience.
